It's the Water you don't see that can do the most damage.

The faster water is removed , the less chance of serious damage.

When you have water on your carpets it's just not the first layer you need to dry that is the most important it's the last layer. With carpets, there is the padding  and then the sub flooring that if left still wet can cause bacteria, mold, rot and other unseen damage.

Before you get a box fan and try to dry it yourself consider how it will affect your property if you don't get all the moisture dried.
